Killen Falls – Tintenbar

Killen Falls Nature Reserve is home to one of the last standing remnants of the big scrub rainforest. The big scrub rainforest once blanketed the Northern Rivers before the cedar-getters cleared most of this forest and it is significant to the region

Stroll along the boardwalk, offering a viewing platform located on the top of a cliff overlooking Killen Falls. Take a picnic to the Rous Reserve picnic area and enjoy the beautiful sounds of the natural waterfall.

Killen Falls Nature Reserve is located on Killen Falls Drive, Tintenbar, New South Wales, about a 20 minute drive from Ballina, off Friday Hut Road.

The Ballina Kayaks team is led by Scott Rawstorne who is an Australian Canoeing certified kayak instructor, the creator of the Global Paddler project and the author of The Paddler’s Guide to New South Wales, The Paddler’s Guide to Queensland and The Paddler’s Guide to Victoria.
Ballina’s lovely subtropical climate makes it possible to paddle here all year round. Waterways that they explore include the Richmond River, North Creek, Chickiba Creek, Fishery Creek, North Creek Canal, Emigrant Creek and Maguires Creek. Highlights of these places include shipwrecks, historical structures, and Aboriginal shell middens. You might also meet local wildlife like dolphins, turtles, white-bellied sea-eagles, ospreys, and kingfishers. Migratory birds from the Northern Hemisphere also visit us in the summer months.
